Stunning Seville was all that we hoped it would be and more … bright & colourful, lively & exuberant, beautiful & picturesque, walkable & safe! We hadn’t even dared to think about the weather as we were visiting in January but WOW we struck super lucky on an unusual hot spell that hit the very weekend we were there – the blue skies setting off this vibrant city perfectly!
Luckily it wasn’t bull fighting season when we visited – as we are against any form of animal cruelty and don’t think we would have gone near the bull ring … but fortunately it was tranquil when we walked around the outside of this very grand and imposing Baroque round building, Plaza de Toros, which celebrates with great pride its matadors, history and tradition!
You can’t miss it really but we highly recommend visiting the extraordinary Metropole Parasol which is a fairly new addition to the city … go early so that you get the full impact of this amazing structure! We had so much fun walking under & over it, viewing it from every angle and photographing it! So much so that we dedicated a whole separate post to our experience there which you can read right HERE!
This city is so easily walkable and the grandeur and architecture was divine … you needed to look up and around constantly to take it all in and there was colour everywhere which may explain why the locals were so cheerful and friendly! And of course the Paella and Tapas at happy hour are never to be missed – we certainly made the most of the relaxed bar culture where you seem to endlessly snack – heaven!!
It may sound strange to say, as Seville oranges are renowned, but we were totally taken aback to literally find trees ladened with oranges EVERYWHERE! The scent during the day was wonderful and again just added to the colour and joy of the place! The very beautiful Plaza de Espana was another area full of colour with a very Venetian vibe to it! We purposely got there early morning so that we could experience it before the crowds arrived – always worth the effort as it was wonderful to stroll around this expansive site with uninterrupted views – it’s detailing, tiles, ceramics and mosaics are just breathtaking! All in all we can’t think of a better city break than this gem of a Spainish city, Ole!
