Park Guell

It was January and we hadn’t expected such amazing weather whilst in Barcelona so to make the most of such a bright and warm day we jump in a taxi and weaved our way up the very steep streets of Carmel Hill to the colourful Park Guell! This beautiful green space is free to walk around for the most part but the area where Gaudi (the celebrated Spanish architect and designer who had a unique and individual style!), had been let loose to create, you will have to pay a small fee to enter – but this will get you close up and interacting with the incredible mosaics that cover the area!

The park’s stone, sand, palm trees and hundreds of bright lime green parakeets – that sqwark and fly about overhead – are all reflected in the gorgeous colours of random bits of broken tiles and miscellaneous bits of pottery that all come together so inspiringly!

And once you have marvelled at every tile, swirl of colour and intricate pattern you can leave the Gaudi area and explore, climbing still higher within the tropical planting of the wider park … cool, tranquil with again more stunning views, it was a delight!

    Oh wow – how beautiful!

We were there in February but arrived too late to get into the mosaic area of the park and had to make do with the nature trail which just wasn’t the same..

    Thanks for sharing

I agree this is a definite must see for Barcelona, we spent hours in complete awe looking all the amazing tiles and sculptures. Its just too hard to describe what its like to be there (although you do a very good job here!), but its well worth the hike up the hill as the views are absolutely stunning. Sadly none of my pics are anywhere as nice as the ones you’ve taken but seeing these really makes me want to go back again. Great blog!
