Bordeaux’s Darwin Project

Bordeaux’s Darwin Project

If you are going to Bordeaux or anywhere around that area then why not add the wonderful and interesting Darwin Project to your list of must see places!Β Literally just across the river you will find an abandoned looking area of ex military barracks but on entering through the large gates there is a collective of vibrant, individual, arty and eco spaces!

The first thing that caught our eye was the graffiti in abundance as you wander through derelict buildings and not just tagging but really very beautiful works of art that we enjoyed discovering at every turn! There is also a skate park and numerous warehouses that hold creative workshops, eco discussion groups, a charity shop and much, much more!

Like the huge central hanger where you will find a very cool and eclectically decorated vegetarian restaurant, cafe and bar which has loads of great wooden tables and benches both inside and out!Β It’s such a great place to hang out and people watch as this space attracts all ages and we very much enjoyed the mix of people and vibrant atmosphere … it reminded us of our home town of Brighton UK – in particular around the North Laine area!

Don’t miss the fantastic food store of local and organic products … there are craft beers, a bicycle repair and recycle place, a bakery … and from what we can understand this place is developing, adding and changing things continuously so who knows what you may find when you visit ?!

On that note it is worth checking out their website beforehand too, link right here Darwin Project, to see if there is anything special going on while you are around – we weren’t lucky on that score but can imagine it’s a brilliant place for some live music or a big out door exhibition or event!

All in all it is a quirky and fascinating way to spend a morning or afternoon in total contrast to Bordeaux which is just across the water but couldn’t be more different in look, feel and experience – well worth a visit we think!
